Reasons to Choose Metal for Your Carport

Posted on: 25 April 2017

Carports provide a great shelter for your vehicles, whether you don't have enough room in your garage, or your house didn't come with a garage. Before you have one built, you should first decide on what material to use. The two common options are metal and wood, each of which has its own pros and cons. Here are some benefits of choosing a metal carport.

Metal Weighs Less Than Wood

Even when you choose a carport made of steel as opposed to aluminum, it is going to be lighter in weight than a carport made of wood. The lighter weight is going to benefit you in a number of ways. First of all, it makes it easier to assemble, since you aren't having to haul super heavy materials. The lighter weight also makes the carport easy to transport if you assemble it in one area, then later on decide you want to move it. This would be a lot harder to do if your carport was made of wood.

Metal Carports Are Very Durable

One of the top reasons people choose metal for their carports is that the material is durable and lasts a long time. The money you spend on the carport is going to be a great investment since metal carports don't experience damage easily and don't need to be replaced as soon as a wood carport would be. There is no sealing that needs to be done and very minimal maintenance. Metal won't start on fire, doesn't experience damage from pests and water, and is durable enough to withstand heavy winds and other weather elements.

Metal Carports Are Often Less Expensive

With these other benefits, you would think a metal carport would be more expensive, but that simply isn't the case. In fact, the carports made of steel or aluminum are usually considerably less than wood and other materials. Even if you are having it custom made, it costs less than a custom-made wood carport. However, there are pre-fabricated carports made of this material, which can help you save even more. You can easily buy the materials and set it up yourself next to your house, since everything is lightweight and easy to install as a DIY project.

Metal is highly recommended if you might want to move it at some point, are looking to save money, or want a carport that is built to last with minimal maintenance required.

How to Construct a House

Hello, my name is Lisa and this is my blog. I live in Perth, Australia and for the past two years, I have been working on my home to improve it. My husband works away a lot, so the upkeep of the family home is completely in my hands. At first, I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Thankfully, my brother works as a contractor and knows about electrical wiring, plumbing and general construction. He gave me some great advice so I decided to start this blog so I could pass on his wisdom to others. I hope you enjoy my blog.
